When Ship Food to China by DHL, What Documents will be Required for Customs Clearance?

It is quite troublesome when courier parcels containing food are stuck at China customs. Things will be quite easier if the the containing food is just for personal consumption and the parcel value does not exceed the value limit for personal items. But normally,  formal declaration is required when food parcels are stuck, and a China customs broker will be needed. What makes things more complex is that the documents may be different for parcels ship by different and/or stuck at different customs of China. Hereunder, we share the required documents for DHL parcels containing different types of food stuck at Guangzhou to help you get a general idea. 

 Food, food additive, and dairy products that are inedible or for testing use, shall provide self-statement for inedible food, and on the package there shall be a label that indicates that the product itself is not for consumption.

Edible food additives(not include dairy products), 
1.The first page of National Standards
2.Letter of Commitment by consignee of imported food(only required for pre-packed products)
3.Photocopy of business license, stamped with company¡¯s seal 
4.Photocopy of Food Production Permit or Food circulation Permit, stamped with company¡¯s seal 
5.Info List of the imported food additives, including name, quantity, weight, production date, expiry date, National standard name and standard number. 
6.Chinese label 
7. Usage statement, stamped with company¡¯s seal 
8.Ingredient list, stamped with company¡¯s seal 
9.If the food additives are imported for the first time, first time import statement shall be provided. If not first time import, import record shall be provided. 
 Food(not include dairy products)
1.Health certificate or free sales certificate. 
Note: Health certificate or free sales certificate is not required for most of food(Beverage, for example) for human consumption. Only a small part of food needs the certificate. There is no detailed list as food covers a very wide range of products. 
2.Information List of Imported food
3.Chinese label sample, original labels and their Chinese translation are required for pr-packed food. 
4.Chinese label Statement and Chinese label sample are required for food with large package. 
5.Registration info screen shot of domestic importer, manufacturer and the exporter/shipper. 
6.2.Letter of Commitment by consignee of imported food(only required for pre-packed products)
7.If the food products are imported for the first time, first time import statement shall be provided. If not first time import, import record shall be provided. 
8.Certificate of origin required for imported wine
9.If the country of origin is Japan, shall check with Customs whether certificate of origin is required. 
10.If the imported food is not for sale, usage statement shall be provided. 
11.Photocopies of business license and food circulation permit, stamped with company¡¯s seal.
